Dixon Wins, Power strong, Briscoe Crashes

It was a day of drama at the Indianapolis 500, with many caution periods it will go down as one of the most grueling ever.

as Scott Dixon lead the field around to the green, he couldn’t have known that he would be etched onto the Borg-Warner trophy for all to see, The brisbane born Kiwi ran a great race and with a near perfect pitstop under the final caution of the day he re-took the lead of the worlds greatest motor race.

in the closing laps Vitor Meira was slowly reeling Dixon in but the Target-Ganassi driver held him off to cross the famed yard of bricks in first place, and in doing so became the first Kiwi to win the Indianapolis 500, Dixon now leads the 2008 IRL championship from Brazilian Helio Castroneves and Brit Dan Wheldon.

Of the aussie contingent the best finisher was Will Power who after his practice crash earlier in the month, stayed out of trouble and drove a solid race to finish 13th (2nd rookie) in his first Indy 500 attempt.

The other Aussie Ryan Briscoe was runnign strong earlier in the race only to have contact in pit lane with Danica Patrick on lap 171, the contact was enough to put both cars out of the race, and fire up Patrick who started charging down pit lane towards the Penske pit area, but cooler heads prevailed and she was whisked back to the Andretti-Green pitbox to calm down a little

The Next Race is at Milwaukee in one week
